Tyler and Cliff’s Wedding

tyler wedding

Yesterday my cousin Tyler was married in the Salt Lake Temple (I designed their wedding invitation). The sealing was at 9 am so it was a bit of a stress to get everyone up and dressed but we were on the road by 7:15. Traffic getting into Salt Lake was terrible. It made me glad I am so blessed with an office five minutes from home. The radio was reporting an accident in Bountiful and it took about 45 minutes to get from our house to North Salt Lake. When we reached the spot they were reporting an accident there wasn’t a single wrecked car or police car on the road. It was almost like everyone was just slowing down to look for this reported accident. As traffic sped up Abbi says from the back seat, “Hey Tyler is behind us!” Sure enough the bride was running later than we were. That made us glad to know we weren’t going to miss anything although I bet they were stressing!
The sealing was great. It is always great to sit in the temple and witness a sealing and be reminded of what a sacred obligation and blessing marriage is! After the sealing we partook in that traditional mormon ritual called waiting around for wedding photos. There were literally four wedding parties waiting in line to get the traditional photo on the steps of the temple. I had this great idea that someone should build a couple hollywood sets of just the temple steps and set them up in a building adjecent to the temple to accomodate the large amount of weddings that are performed at the salt lake temple. That way people could get their photos without having to wait and you could control the weather and the lighting. Brilliant I know. I couldn’t convince my uncle (the photographer) that he could just photoshop our whole family in so we stood around for a good hour and a half until we could finally get our turn on the temple steps. We were in about two photos and then we were on our way home. We did stop for lunch at one of my favorite Salt Lake eateries L&L Hawaiin Drive In. Nothing like an authentic Hawaiian mix-plate lunch! And the best part is the servings are so huge the leftovers fed our whole family lunch the next day! As we were driving to lunch Abbi said, “Mom, at the temple I felt the gospel.” We have had family home evening lessons about the spirit and the holy ghost but she found her own special way of expressing what she felt as she toured the temple grounds with her cousins. I hope Abbi can continue to feel the gospel throughout her life.
