Caleb’s First Jazz Game

Jami got tickets for Caleb and I to last nights Jazz Game. I have been looking forward to taking my son to a Jazz Game for a long time but I was a bit aprehensive that maybe he was still a bit too young and that it would be a miserable waist of money. When I got home from work he was obviously excited and kept asking questions like if I was going to play or blow the whistle and if he was going to have to sit on the stage. We finally realized he had thought that going to the stake center to watch church ball was a Jazz game. If I would’ve known that I could have saved a couple bucks…

We got changed into our Jazz paraphenelia and headed downtown. Caleb was a bit impatient on the drive but once he saw the arena with the big Jazz banners on it he started to get really excited. He was pretty much in awe the whole time we were walking to our seats. All the Arena people were really cute and went out of there way to say hello but he was too shy to say anything to them and just smiled.

We found are seats. All the way at the top of section 109! I had never sat all the way at the top before but really there aren’t any bad seats at ESA. After only about 5 minutes Caleb tells me he has to go to the bathroom. I roll my eyes and we begin the long hike back down to the bathrooms. That took most of the first quarter. I entertained Caleb with M&Ms in the second quarter and with the idea of getting ice cream at halftime. The line for ice cream was a mile long but I figured we had nothing better to do so we got in line and that took most of halftime. The ice-cream kept Caleb entertained for most of the third quarter which was nice. By the fourth-quarter, I was out of things for Caleb to do and he started getting restless. Luckily the Jazz pulled away and were up 20 about half-way through the fourth so I was okay leaving early. Overall, taking a three-year old to a Jazz game went as expected. It was kind of hard to enjoy the game but I will surely always remember the experience.
