Wheeler Reunion

It had been a good four years since we had last seen DJ and Anissa. The Wheelers have lived on both costs since then and both families have added two kids apiece since we said goodbye to them at the Orem Outback. We were excited and grateful that they were willing to brave a Southwest Airlines flight with two kids under the age of one and we were anxiously anticipating their arrival last Thursday and the chance to catch up – in person. I add in person because with the arrival of the “blogosphere” we now live in we can feel connected even though we never see or talk to each other. It made for rather interesting conversation. “Yeah we did this a few months….Oh yeah, you read the post? Well, yeah it was like that…”

Once their plane touched down we made our way to DJ’s aunts house in Orem where we kind of just hung out and let the kids play with whatever toys they could get their hands on while we caught up. The twins are as cute as they look on the blog. Addison is a knock-off of Anissa in looks and manerisms and yes, Ethan does drool as much as Anissa let’s on in her blog. They are darling and it was fun to see them just as they are starting to try to walk on their own. While the walking was fun, personally, I preffered Ethan’s “planet of the apes” walk/crawl combination that he used when he really wanted to get around. It made me laugh. After is was appearant Jami might kill over from her cat allergies we went to the park where Abbi and Caleb were able to play while the younger kids crawled around and ate grass. DJ and I talked sports while the ladies talked about – who knows what – probably birthing and baby stuff. While we were sitting at the park, three sky divers slowly decended out of the canyon and landed right in the park. That was pretty cool. As usual I was without my camera so I will have to hope that my blogging mentor Anissa posts a few cute pictures of our day.

We ended the day with a nice dinner at Applebees. All the kids were starving and it was all we could do to keep them fed. The kids were very good and we were able to chat some over dinner. Overall it was a great day and while I wish we could be closer to great friends it is always a comfort to me to know that wherever we are in the world our friends are there when we need them. I guess it is our turn to make a trek up to the pacific northwest next year so I hope the Wheelers are ready for houseguests!

  1. Thank you for blogging our day with you guys in more detail. I was so overwhelmed by everything that happened that I just had to do quick one sentence summaries. I will just refer to your blog post for more details now. :) Oh, and we have pretty much said farewell to Ethan’s ape crawl since he is almost always walking now. I’m a bit sad about it now that I think about it…
It was so great to see you guys and DJ and I both commented later that night how much we have missed you guys and how easy it is to pick right back up where we left off.
YES, PLEASE COME VISIT! We would seriously love to have you guys up here and there is plenty of room for your whole crew to stay with us.
