Abbi Starts Kindergarten

We are officially the parents of a school age child! Abbi is enjoying her first full week of kindergaten and just loving being in school full time. She is such a brave independent child I admire her courage. I remember being such a chicken on the first day of school. I had to have my mom walk me in and stay while I sobbed and then she would mysteriously dissapear at the first point of distraction. Abbi get’s mad at Jami if she sticks around too long. She is lucky to have about six kids from the ward in her class so that helps a lot to know so many of the kids from church and playgroups and such. Jami has been stressing that Abbi is not prepared enough and we have been working really hard on learning her letters. Today Jami volunteered in her class and I think it helped give us some perspective on how Abbi relates to the other kids in terms of aptitude. There is such a vast range of skill at her age I am sure there are kids that know more than Abbi but Jami also saw there are kids that know a lot less than Abbi and I think that lowered her stress level considerably.

Having Abbi in school has created some new twists in our schedules (more Jami’s than mine) The whole family is adjusting. It has been particularly tough on Caleb. He wishes he could go to school with his sister. He thinks he can do everything his sister can and very often he can. His personality has really been blosomming lately and he is quite a pleasure to be around (most of the time). I just wish he would stop saying the word Poo! Did we mention that Caleb is officially potty trained? I think we did but he continues to do really well. We don’t even put him in pull-ups at night. We are very proud of him – personally I am just glad I don’t have to buy diapers anymore!
