What a Wii-kend

A couple weeks ago some friends invited us over for family night to play their Nintendo Wii. I have had to deal with co-workers who all spent lunch hours searching for the latest Wii shipment for weeks on end and found it a bit over the top so I felt pretty prepared to not get suckered into the Wii hype that night but well – I guess I am a sucker. I had so much fun playing Wii Sports that night that I have had a one track mind ever since. I needed a Wii and I needed it now! Jami must have enjoyed it a little bit because she accepted the task of calling around town looking for someone that had them in stock. At first we were just half-heartedly looking – not wanting to admit how bad we wanted one, but the more time we spent the more the desire grew.
Friday, Jami called the nearest BestBuy at about 4 PM and they said they had just gotten a shipement of seven. I finished up what I was working on and left work a bit early and drove to Ogden thinking the day had finally come. Well, when I got there they had sold them all in about an hour. I was pretty discouraged that night as we had already planned a family Wii party and had to instead play Monopoly. Yawn.
While we were playing my mom mentioned she had seen them near the registers at CostCo on a couple occasions so we called there and they said they thought they had a shipment coming that night and to call in the morning. Jami called first thing Saturday morning and they said they would not know until about 9:30 am – about an hour before they opened. I called at nine and nobody would answer. Finally, I just let it ring and after a good five minutes an annoyed employee finally picked up. They did get a shipment and they had about 20! I rushed down and got there about 15 minutes after they opened and they still had a whole bunch available. At Costco you have to buy a bundle that includes an extra paddle and Mario Party 8. I don’t know if I saved any money but I would have probably bought a game and another paddle anyway.
We spent the rest of the weekend playing WiiSports and MarioParty. We had my family over Saturday night and everyone had such a great time. We had a Bowling and a Tennis Tournament. Jami is much better than I am at bowling but I am the Roger Fedderer of Wii Tennis. I am yet to be beat! We had so much fun playing Wii Sports we did not even try MarioParty until Sunday afternoon. It is fun too but would be better with four players instead of having to play against the computer. The Wii is definately a different interactive experience and everyone from Caleb to my Dad seemed to enjoy playig it. Now if I can just fiqure out how I am going to pay for it…

  1. why do you keep saying we? It was mostly your obbsession. Sure I enjoy it but I wasn’t the one all depressed Friday night when they were sold out.

  2. LOL. I love Jami’s comment here. Thanks for setting the record straight Jami.

DJ is going to be getting a Wii from a client that used to work for the company so we will be joining the craze soon. I’ll let you know if it is as big a hit here as it has been in your family.

  3. I would love to write and say what a great job you did on this, as you have put a lot of work into it.
